What’s This?

I’m going to be blunt here. DO NOT SELL THINGS OR TRY TO PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS ON 9/11. Not only is that tasteless. It’s stupid. What you should do on this day is leverage your social media to encourage your community to memorialize the victims, spread messages of peace, and connect with one another. If you have even the slightest doubt about your social media posts, just stay silent for one day. However, if you have thought this out properly, and you will be posting during the holiday, take a few seconds to copy and save the 9/11 Remembrance hashtags below.

How to Use 9/11 Remembrance Hashtags

As mentioned above, it is very easy for a well meaning post to go wrong on a day of remembrance. It’s even worse when companies are so out of touch that they try to sell things on a day when we remember the many who died a tragic death. You don’t want to end up like AT&T when they posted an image of one of their phones with the towers, or like the Texas Mattress company that was shilling a Twin Towers Mattress sale. If anything, you need to be respectful, or quiet.

There are a few brands and businesses that are able to post messages on this day. It is those who are somehow connected to this tragic day and the people affected by it. If you happen to be one of these entities, keep your message simple and unaffiliated to your brand. Be authentic. American flags have not done well historically on social media for this day. Images that are somber and echo the mood of the day will fare much better.
