What’s This?

You hear it all the time: “Add a call-to-action to get conversions”. Yet, you’re hesitant to use calls-to-action on your posts, you don’t want to seem pushy or overly promotional. Welp, that’s got to stop. We’ve done some digging to get some hard numbers to finally convince you on why Calls-To-Action are essential to your business.

Why Calls-To-Action Are Essential to Your Business

  • Including a call-to-action in your email increases click-thru by 371% – via LinkedIn
  • Including a call-to-action in your email increases sales by 1617% – via LinkedIn
  • Using CTA buttons on your Facebook business page increase CTR by 285% – via AdRoll
  • Adding a CTA after an educational product video increases conversions by 144% – via QuickSprout
  • Adding a CTA to a video can increase your CTR by up to 380% – via QuickSprout
  • Adding a CTA to your blog can increase revenue by 83% – via Brafton

How to Optimize Your CTAs

Now that you know why calls-to-action are essential, let’s discuss how you can increase their power.

Anchor Text CTA’s: When you create your CTA’s, add anchor text, studies have shown that anchor text CTA’s get significantly more conversions.

Visual Elements: Don’t be afraid to point out the obvious. Add elements that point to your CTA (like arrows) this will increase your conversion rate as well.

Use Warm Tones: Studies have shown that using CTAs in red and orange can increase conversions by 21-32%

Use Buttons: Make your clickable CTA into a button instead of a link. This will increase your conversion by 45%

Get Personal: When you write your call-to-action, use first person phrasing. So something like “start my free trial” instead of “Start your free trial”

Go Below The Fold: Put your CTA below educational information about the action desired.  People are more likely to perform the CTA if they are informed about the reasons behind it.

Keep Things Neat and Simple: Make sure that the area around your CTA is not cluttered or messy. You want to make it easy for your viewers to see and click to convert. Placing images and write-ups around your CTA will distract them from your ultimate goal.

Keep Things Short: Your call-to-action should be no more than 5 words. Anything more will make it less effective.

Use Action Verbs: Actions are active, not passive. Don’t be afraid to be aggressive here. Use words like download, buy, register so that the message is clear.

Contrasting Colors: Make sure you use a contrasting color so that your call-to-action pops out. Look at the example above, the green button just jumps out when contrasted to the muted background.

Create Urgency: You want this action to be done now, not in five days. This means you need to create urgency. Test out using phrases like these to increase the time it takes to convert your audience:

  • Closing soon
  • Hurry
  • Immediately
  • Last chance
  • Offer ends tonight
  • Only (number) days left

Remember that these are general rules. You should always test and measure to see what works better for your brand or business. So read these, implement, measure and adjust if needed.
