How to Use Your Memorial Day Hashtags for Instagram
Since in most cases, we don’t recommend selling or advertising on Instagram for Memorial day, your actions on this holiday should reflect what you’re going to do all year. Memorial Day is a good opportunity to connect with your audience, to show them you and your brand are good, that you care about them and the community more than you do about making a sale. As such, there are some things you need to do if you want to achieve success on Instagram year round.
I know you’re busy and you may not be able to post on a daily basis. If you can’t do this, try to at least post every other day. If you are constantly in your community’s feed, it will serve as a reminder that you care about the community enough to be a part of the conversation. Oprócz, if you use an Instagram scheduling tool like Socialdraft, your time will be managed much better and you’ll be surprised just how well you’ll keep to a social media schedule.
Engage your audience
This is the second most important thing. If you engage your audience in conversation, you increase your chances of converting them to customers, be that a walk into your physical location, a click to your website or whatever your desired action from that person is. Just make sure that the engagements are honest and genuine.

Use a Mix Industry Specific & Memorial Day hashtags
The Museum of American History is a great example of how to use hashtags to get views from the right audience. This post is relevant to the holiday, sticks to the core of the poster (educating the public about art and history), and it reminds their audience that they are in fact open during the day. Note their use of these very specific hashtags #PhotoHistory #AmericanHistory #CivilWar. They are meant to attract the attention of people who are interested in the Civil War, Photo History and American History. Their audience for the post is this core audience, plus an audience interested in Memorial Day. They missed the mark on using location hashtags, but as you can see from the number of likes and comments received that this was an incredibly successful post.

Mix Location Hashtags & Memorial Day Hashtags
W tym przypadku, CBS News is using the location hashtag #Arlington for relevancy. If you are a local brand posting about an event for this holiday, you’ll also want to use geo-targeted hashtag. This way when people browse the feed for that particular location, you have a chance to be seen by them and increase your chances of gaining an interaction from a local audience.
Use Hashtags for Verticals and Partners
Brad Johnson of Season 12 of the Bachelorette was a Marine. This post makes so much sense because he himself was in the armed forces. Note how he used both hashtags for the holiday and for the armed forces, but he included hashtags for his associated brand (#thebachelorette #bachelorettenation #bachelornation). This means that people who were exploring Instagram posts about the show would be exposed to his post and learn more about his life and branding. This is very smart marketing, but only works because he owns this holiday. He is a part of this day of remembrance.
Include Custom Branded Hashtags
The New York Giants executed this very effective post for Memorial Day. While the post has a slightly promotional post (it is set in their stadium, includes their @handle and their custom hashtag, it does not come off as offensive. The Giants have a long standing history of celebrating the men and women of the armed forces. This makes it so that this post comes off as genuine. There are no actual hashtags on the post outside of #MemorialDay, but the custom hashtag #GiantsPride is tastefully inserted into the image. This post works.
