The good thing about Twitter is that it is a never-ending stream of information. The bad thing is that you can easily get lost in the feed. The half-life of a post on twitter is only 25 minutes. What do we mean by that? That in 25 minutes, the reach of that tweet is decreased by half. Needless to say, posting at the optimal time is key. What do you need to consider when planning when to post on twitter?

How to find out what location your twitter Followers are at

Location: You need to plan your tweet time according to the demographic that you are trying to reach. If you have multiple demographics (say a local directory) you may want to create handles for each location and fine tune your times to each of them. You can find out the location of your Twitter audience either by going to Twitter Analytics (you will need to connect your credit card to their ads system in order to access this) or use a system like Socialdraft which gives you reports that show where your audience is located.

A Starting Point: There have been lots of studies done on the best times to post to Twitter (the image above gives you a few credible sources). While we don’t vouch for them (you really need to analyze your account to figure out your best times), they are a good starting point for testing. Create a spreadsheet for yourself, test out the suggested times and measure when you get the most engagement and retweets. This will get you closer to your starting point.

How to find out what your best Facebook posting times are

Facebook is probably the most troublesome network when it comes to getting engagement. It seems that their algorithm is always changing and making all of us run around like chickens with no heads. It is important to know that 75% of the engagement for your Facebook posts happen during the first 5 hours, but the majority of these happen right at the beginning (the first 2 hours). The first thing you are going to do is go to Insights (at the top of your page), then click Posts. Check out the “When Your fans are online” area. This simple graph will tell you when your fans are online. Start off your testing by posting exactly at the time most of your fans are online. Then test out posting 10 minutes before until you find the time when you get the most engagement.

A Few Other Tests: The sources below say that these are the best times to post. While we feel the above method is better, it is always a good idea to test.

Quick Sprout: Thu & Fri 1 pm, 3 pm
Optimizely: Mon-Thur bet 6 pm & 8 pm
Microsoft: Thur & Frid bet 1 pm & 3 pm
Hubspot: Thur & Frid from 1 pm & 3 pm

NOTE: This does not mean that you should be scheduling only on Thurs & Fri from 1-3 pm. You need to be active on Facebook on a daily basis if you are going to give yourself a chance of any reach.

As you all know, Instagram recently implemented a Facebook-like algorithm. This means that if you don’t get likes and comments on your post, Instagram will show your posts less. Instagram Analytics: There is a small caveat on this one. You must sign up for a business account in order to access analytics. Many people are wary of switching due to the previous drop in engagement on business accounts on Facebook. We’ve seen a small drop across our personal and business accounts, but nothing astronomical. Once you switch over to a business account, you can check analytics to see when your community is online, the percentage of male vs female, age range and location. With this information, you can take the next steps we’ll outline below.

Location: You need to consider the location of your audience. If you are a physical trainer in Hoboken, NJ you need to consider when the people from your area are active on Instagram…but…you also need to consider…

Lifestyle: When is that person scrolling through their Instagram feed. Is your target client a mom in Hoboken looking to get rid of stubborn belly weight. It’s possible that she is scrolling right after she has dropped the kids off at day care. If you are training people who work in Manhattan, then they may be scrolling while they are on the bus on the way home. When does your target customer have free time to scroll.

A Starting Point: These are some of the optimal time as suggested by some studies:

Hubspot: Mon – Thur any time that it is NOT 3 pm – 4 pm
Latergramme: Wed  5 pm or weekdays bet 6 am & 12 pm

First you need to download your CSV:

  • Go to the calendar
  • Click “Import CSV”

When you create your CSV content, make sure that if you are creating a tweet that you keep the text at about 100 characters IF you are including a link and an image.

Also make sure that you put the link and image link in the assigned columns to avoid any errors.

***To add an image link, simply right click the image and copy the link for the image. Then paste into the image field.

If you are using TrueTime, you do not need to take any actions with the date/time fields. Socialdraft will ignore whatever is in there.

Once you’re ready to bulk schedule, head over to the Calendar area, and click on “Import CSV”.

– Upload your CSV File
– Once the file is uploaded, click “Submit”
– Check your posts for accuracy and edit if you need to
– Click “Select All”
– Select the range dates you want your posts to publish
– Check your Time Zone
– Click “TrueTime All”
